Angel Food Ministry..

Kern Methodist Church just started this ministry and I thought it was so cool! I don't know if it's being done anywhere else beside Georgia and Tn.. I think this is real cool thing for anyone especially with that amount of money.. This article was from Oak Ridger..

Kern United Methodist provides grocery relief

Kern United Methodist Church, 451 E. Tennessee Ave., has partnered with Angel Food Ministries to provide grocery relief to Oak Ridge and surrounding communities. Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the United States.

Angel Food works through churches and community organizations in over 20 states. The program began with 34 families in Monroe, Georgia, in 1994, and has grown to serve thousands of families every month. Angel Food Ministries crosses denominational lines and has spread the good news of the Gospel of Christ through salvation tracts that are placed in each food order.

Angel Food's groceries are sold in a quantity that can fit into a medium
sized box at $25 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $50. Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for a month. The food is all the same quality one would purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no-day-old breads, and no produce that almost too ripe.

A sample menu includes one package of chicken nuggets, four 8-ounce
hamburger steaks, four 6-ounce pork chops, 1.5 pounds of bacon, a dozen eggs, a two-pound bag of French fries, bagels, onions, bananas, apples, and a pie. Also, offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Angel Food Ministries, like most all other retail grocery stores, also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program. Anyone is eligible to purchase food irregardless of income.

Food sales and distribution will be handled by Kern United Methodist
Church. Orders and payments would be collected during the first part of each month. These orders will then be turned into the Angel Food main office. Several days later the food will be delivered to Kern.
Kern United Methodist Church members will be taking orders for the November menu at the church from 3-5 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Monday; 6-8 p.m. Wednesday; 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Nov. 6; and Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon. Cash and food stamps will be accepted. Prepayment is required. Food will be distributed on Nov. 20 at Kern
United Methodist Church.

For $25, the November menu includes (4) 5 oz. beef ribeye steaks, (4) 8 oz. hamburger steaks, (4) 6 oz. pork chops, 1 Chef Boy-Ardee Complete Deep Dish Meal, (1) 3lb. breaded frying chicken, (1) 12 oz. Oscar Meyer Beef & Cheese Bologna, 3 lb. Russet Potatoes, 16 oz. peas and carrots, 16 oz. corn-on-the-cob, 16 oz. cut broccoli, 16 oz. cut okra, dozen eggs, one dessert, 16 oz. rice, 1 Hamburger Helper and 7.5 oz. biscuit mix.
